The ACP Civil Society Forum was set up in 1997 following the first
ACP NGO Conference in Entebbe Uganda. The Conference was organized
with the objective of bringing together civil society organisations
from the ACP regions, particularly after it was realized that in
most sub-regions of the ACP Group, similar programmes had been put
in motion by regional networks to increase the awareness and involvement
of civil society in ACP-EU cooperation, particularly in view of
the Lome IV re-negotiations. The lead organisations within the ACP
Civil Society Forum include:
Africa
Caribbean
Pacific
The 1997 Entebbe Conference gave the mandate to these organisations
to facilitate the full establishment of an ACP Civil Society Forum,
which would serve as a platform for civil society organisations
wishing to participate in ACP-EU co-operation processes.
