Southern African states to launch EPA negotiations by mid-March

On Tuesday 3 February 2004 Jean-Robert Goulongana, Secretary-General of the ACP group announced that the last regional grouping to start EPA negotiations with the EU would be a group of SADC-members: Tanzania, Mozambique, Swaziland, Lesotho, Botswana, Namibia and Angola.
The launch of their negotiations with the EU is expected to take place in mid-March.

South-Africa would participate in the launch as a "learned observer" (as it has already signed an FTA with the EU).
